A Midsummer Nights Dream x The Bridge Theatre

The Bridge Theatre’s visionary production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream first took shape in our Creation Studio — a purpose-built space for circus, theatre, and dance rehearsals

A Midsummer Nights Dream Consultancy and Rehearsals

One of Director Nick Hytner’s early visions was that the fairies would be in the air suspended above the stage. When the team arrived to rehearse in our spaces in 2019, they didn’t yet know what that would look like. Through hands-on exploration and collaboration with our circus consultants, they experimented with a range of aerial equipment and techniques before landing on the use of silk loops.

The company spent several weeks developing the aerial sequences in the Creation Studio, making full use of the specialist rigging infrastructure and height clearance the space offers. This enabled them to safely rehearse complex aerial choreography and transitions, before taking the work to the Bridge Theatre stage.

In 2025, the Bridge Theatre returned the National Centre to rehearse their revival of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, continuing the creative partnership and building on the original aerial language developed here in 2019.
